CREATIVE CROYDON 2025
SUMMARY
I was selected as one of the three winning entries for the 31% Wool Creative Croydon exhibition for 2025. I was tasked with creating three banners that would liven up the Croydon town centre as we head into the colder months and show pride for the borough.
My pieces featured landmarks in the area showcased in the style of Barman-esque moquettes. I chose this style because I'm quite fond of trains, and I thought it would make a pretty unique pattern.

THE BRIEF
The brief of my submission was to create a three-banner art piece that should highlight the best of Croydon and to make something that would brighten up the town centre, because that's where my final products would be shown.
I decided to make my banners represent famous Croydon landmarks like the Clocktower and East Croydon station, but I also included Addington Palace as it's literally just down the road from where I live and is a personal touch because I always like seeing it whenever I go down Lodge Lane.
THE MAKING
I sketched out my initial ideas for the mouquettes in Procreate and vectorised them all in Figma. I wanted to make all of the landmarks recognizable, but also being a little bit abstract with it because I'm practically using pixels at this scale. I also gave them the three tertiary colours which relate to their aesthetic.
I wanted to make a render of my moquettes in Blender to give it some realism, but I felt it would have taken away from the pattern itself, which is the key part of my design. Looking back at it, I did prefer the 2D version compared to the realistic renders (which has since been lost to time).

TODAY
As of now, my banner designs are being shown around popular parts of the Croydon town center, and looking at them in a real-world environment like this, albeit now noticing a little major flaw in one of my finished designs, it's made me a lot more proud of it, and I'd say it's the project that I'm the most proud of thus far!
I've very recently worked with 31% Wool to make their studio Christmas card for this year (find the finished product in Other Projects), and I've developed a pretty good work relationship with the agency.
